^ Interesting to SEE that despite GM's TROUBLES, they still manage to OUTSELL EVERY other company !!!.... FORD was the Big Winner (if there was a winner here ! )...& Toyota was a BIG Loser as well, not coming close, (even with Lexus) to matching the Americans. Gee, it looks like even when the worst is at hand, the USA auto makers are still on TOP !!...& look who is in last place !!...Maserati.

...& as GM plays "musical chairs" with the companies they are selling off...get THIS :
DETROIT -- A deal to sell General Motors
Corp.'s Saab Automobile AB could come as soon as Friday, people
familiar with the situation said Thursday, signaling the company is
close to resolving a critical loose end in its global restructuring.
GM is "very close" to cutting a preliminary deal to offload
Sweden-based Saab, but it hasn't yet reached a final agreement, a
person familiar with the deal said.
The comments came as Swedish TV station SVT reported that Saab had
agreed to be sold to Swedish exclusive sports-car maker Koenigsegg
Automobile AB.
Koenigsegg couldn't be reached to comment on Thursday.
The person familiar urged caution considering the sale a done deal.
The deal still has several moving parts. Along with talks between GM
and the potential buyer, the Swedish government would be called on to
provide financing.
In a clear sign the Saab is close to finding a new owner, the
Swedish government said Thursday it will start negotiating a loan
guarantee with the car maker. The government said it has decided to let
its National Debt Office start formal discussions about the state
guaranteeing a €500 million ($700 million) loan that Saab has supplied
for with the European Investment Bank.
GM in February sought protection from creditors for Saab in an
effort to sell or spin off the unit. The company has said its goal is
to have a deal with one of three bidders by the end of June. Along with
Koenigsegg, the final candidates are reportedly Renco Group Inc., a
private holding company, and Merbanco Inc., a Wyoming-based private
investment group.
As part of GM's U.S. bankruptcy proceedings, the auto maker is
looking to offload four of its eight brands, including Saab. The fates
of the other three are known.
GM announced in recent days that China's Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co. would buy Hummer and Penske Automotive Group is buying the Saturn retail network. The company plans to wind down its Pontiac brand.
Unresolved is the future of GM's European unit. Canadian auto parts supplier Magna International Inc. has proposed to buy GM's Opel in Germany and Vauxhall in the U.K. in a deal that has the backing of the German government.
But the deal has stalled amid worry from U.K. officials that
Vauxhall would bear an unfair share of job losses in a Magna takeover.

GM FILES BANKRUPTCY CHAP 11 !!!
THE GIANT OF THE AUTO INDUSTRY HAS FILED FOR BANKRUPTCY PROTECTION IN ORDER TO ELIMINATE DEBT, RESTRUCTURE THE COMPANY AND EMERGE AS A NEW SMALLER & TRULY PROFITABLE OPERATION.
IT IS A SAD DAY IN MUDVILLE !!...THIS IS GOING TO CAUSE MANY REPERCUSSIONS ACROSS THE NATION & THE WORLD, MORE PEOPLE ARE ABOUT TO LOSE THEIR JOBS, HOMES & LIVELIHOODS. IT IS NOT GOING TO BE PRETTY AT ALL, BUT IT WILL RESOLVE THE CURRENT PROBLEMS & ALLOW GM TO COME BACK STRONG :
LET'S DO THE MATH ; GM HAD 172b IN DEBT & 82b IN ASSETS,...NOW, TAKE AWAY THE 50 b THAT THE USA IS "INVESTING" IN GM FOR 60%, & YOU GOT 40b LEFT... BUT, GM ONLY HAS 17b IN DEBT NOW !!!...FROM UAW DEAL, SALES OF "LOSER" DIVISIONS, & JUST NOT HAVING TO PAY SOME BILLS,...MAKING GM A 65b PROFIT,...
OVERNIGHT !!!...THAT IS ABOUT AS CLOSE AS YOU CAN GET TO WHAT THE USA OWES GM FOR TAKING CARE OF ALL THOSE AUTO WORKERS FOR A FEW DECADES !
LOOKS LIKE AN "EVEN" DEAL FROM OUR STANDPOINT !!!...NOW THEY CAN DO THIS :
It really makes no difference, As GM is not going away at all. If you look
at the Chrysler deal it shows what this is all about. The main problem WAS the health & pension costs for UAW workers, benefits they have
earned over the last 100 years building the Auto Industry in America.
GM is just honoring that commitment to them, rightfully so In Our Opinion.
The BK filing with GM, like Chrysler, will just be an
"adjustment" of debt converted to equity & the UAW PENSION & THE USA will own a majority share of GM... & Chrysler !!! They (the UAW 7 EACH OF US IN THE USA) will be the American Auto Industry,
which after the UAW, built from the union members anyway, MADE THE INDUSTRY, so with a
vested interest in the companies, they WILL do whatever is needed to
return profits as otherwise they won't get paid !!!....& NOR WILL WE IF WE CONTINUE TO BE DUMBASSES & BUY IMPORT CARS !!!
The Really BAD part of this equation is that the smaller "supplier" companies, who are under contract with GM & Chrysler will NOT get paid !!!...THEY are going out of business & will Not be back. YOU & YOUR neighbors are going to lose your jobs. WHY ?...the problem is right in front of your face....EVERY Import car you see on American Roads has contributed to this current state of affairs. The PEOPLE who bought those cars, have cost YOU your job, your house & are the Main reason your Life is going down the drain today !!!
The reason all this was brought about however has Nothing to do with
the Auto Industry in the USA, rather it was the Failure & Greed
that allowed the USA Government to not protect American Industry in a
free market economy. Every other Auto company from foreign countries
has some sort of assistance from their Governments to pay for the
Health & Pension costs of the Auto Workers. American Companies do not have that benefit !...rather it is an obligation.

^ OH, BTW,.....GM STARTED PRE PRODUCTION ON THE CHEVY VOLT THE SAME DAY THE FILED FOR THE CHAPTER 11 DEAL !!!...NOW THINK REAL HARD, WHY ?....LOL !!!
The Free Market economy is not really "free" when it costs USA companies
$5000 per car in Health & Pensions BEFORE they even build each car,
& the competion has that price advantage, regardless of the number
of US sales, the profit margin continues to drop as time goes on, the
more cars you build,... the more you OWE !!! It has to Stop somewhere, & this is where it Will Stop. There is really no other way out of the present conditions at this time.
USA Government literally has GIVEN import companies Free Land,
Free Factories already built by US companies, & allowed them to
hire non union US workers at HALF the wages & benefits & Tax
Incentives that range from little or No Tax on the profits made from
those factories !!. Sooner or later there HAD to be a price to pay for
those "short term" solutions, yet Nothing was done for Detroit to match
those incentives given to Import Companies.
Overall this "crisis" will solve the debt problem, release the
obligations and allow US Companies to complete & make a profit on
the cars they sell, which they still sell more than anyone else
Worldwide. Pointing a finger at "the Big 3" management is just Wrong, they ARE today building the Best Quality, most cost effective, & fuel efficient automobiles available on the Planet today.
GM has won awards for the engine designs, body styling & overall quality performance of the products they are making right now !...Buick just won the # 1 Overall quality award from J.D Power, Chevrolet is ranked # 3 in EPA cafe ratings, with over 40 models !!!...& the Ecotech engine won the "best engine in the world" award as well....this is NOT a failing company !!!
Where the Failure lies is with the US Government & the People of the USA, who allowed the present conditions to escalate into a "National Disaster", by NOT taking action before this to prevent the need for such drastic measures. We have no one to blame but OURSELVES !!
BUT, not to worry, just go buy GM stock, as in 2 years it will be worth a
small fortune !!!...& those UAW workers will EACH have $250,000
portfolios !! Of course most of us will not have any money to buy "stock" with as we will be selling off our Import cars to buy FOOD !!!!
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE BOYS FROM DETROIT, ....THEY MAY LOSE A FEW BATTLES, .....BUT THEY HAVE ALREADY WON THE WAR, REMEMBER IT IS THEIR GAME, DETROIT INVENTED THE "AUTO INDUSTRY"...& THEY WILL NEVER "LET IT GO AWAY" !!
ROGER PENSKE IS MAKING A BID TO BUY SATURN FROM GENERAL MOTORS !!!!...:

Detroit, MI
Roger Penske, chairman of the second largest automotive
group in the nation, has an international plan for the Saturn
dealership network if he is successful in acquiring the brand from
General Motors.
The

could go on sale at Saturn dealerships. (Photo: Renault Samsung Motors)

The Saturn dealers would sell Renault Samsung Motors vehicles imported from South Korea, according to a report in Automotive News.
Penske met in Paris on May 11 with Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn to
discuss the arrangement, source told the industry newsletter, in which
the South Korean automaker would supply vehicles for distribution by Saturn.
Renault owns 80.1 percent of Renault Samsung, with South Korean
credit-card issuer Samsung Card owning the rest, the report says.
Penske, who heads Penske Automotive Group located in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., recently hired former Chrysler LLC co-President Tom LaSorda to help in the negotiations with GM to buy Saturn
. Michigan dealers David Fischer and Joe Serra also are working with Penske on a Saturn deal, Automotive News said.
Saturn currently has 384 dealerships in the United States.
SO WHO IS RENAULT SAMSUNG ???....:

Samsung Motors (also known as SMI) was built on the will of the
Samsung group's chairman, Kun Hee Lee, who regarded the automotive
industry as a sum of many industries. For the group, this would have
meant the co-operation and binding together of its many subsidiaries,
such as Samsung Electrics and Samsung Electronics. Nevertheless, his
plan was cut short by the Asian financial crisis, and soon after its
establishment, the group jettisoned SMI, together with other non-core
subsidiaries. SMI was up for sale, firstly to Daewoo Motors, which was itself hit by the same crisis and was bought by GM.
Hyundai Motors was also considered as a suitor, but politics and strife
between Samsung group and Hyundai group made this impossible.
Coupled with his personal affection for cars, Mr. Lee's dream of
building SMI as a global force started out with technical assistance
from Nissan,
a company which at the time of SMI's early stages was in dire financial
straits. SMI's affiliation with Nissan could have been one of the
reasons for Renault
buying a major share of the company, as Renault had become a major
shareholder of Nissan by then. One of the very early planners for SMI
has stated that technical affiliations for SMI were initially
considered with either Volkswagen or Honda.
However, its financial situation had forced Nissan to disclose its
technology and engineering expertise to SMI. Also, Nissan has supplied
SMI with its engines, one of them being Nissan's famed V6 engines the
VQ25DE, currently replaced by the VQ35DE.
Present
Today, Renault Samsung Motors (henceforth RSM) maintains a good
position within the Korean automotive market, with its SM5 vehicle
continuing to hold its ground against competitors.
Also, RSM is in the phase of changing its products from a Nissan based
architecture to a Renault based one. For example, the next generation
of Megane will take over the Nissan Sylphy as the base for SM3. Also,
according to the development trend of the Renault-Nissan Alliance,
gasoline engines will be continued to be provided by Nissan, whereas diesel engines
will be provided by Renault. In addition, QM5(a cross over vehicle;
code name: H45) was co-developed with Nissan (who is also using the QM5
as the basis for its next Xtrail, code name P32M). It is being sold in
Korea, Europe & China, and more new vehicles are planned in the
future. This will increase the current company production capacity of
125,000~130,000 units to around 250,000 by 2010, as much of the
increased production will target BRICs countries such as China, Russia,
and also parts of Europe.
As Renault does not have any R&D center and have a few factories
in Asia, RSM will spearhead the Renault's expansion efforts into the
rapidly developing Asian market. Also, it should be noted that Renault
is continuing the use of 'Samsung' name until 2020
under a license agreement with the Samsung group. It remains to be seen
how long Samsung will allow the use of its brand to RSM, and how it
will play its remaining 19.9% of shares. However, as the value of
Samsung's brand continues to increase, Renault's desire to associate
its brand in regions where Renault's brand is weak is considerable:
recent events of Renault's attempts at associating itself with GM could be seen in the same context, as Renault does not have any presence in North America since its exit in the 1980s.
WAIT A MINUTE ....WE ARE NOT DONE YET !!!....
CHRYSLER SET TO "EMERGE" FROM BANKRUPTCY NOW !

Apparently, Fiat's alliance with Chrysler is only the beginning.
According to a variety of reports coming out of the UK and Germany, the
Italian automaker's expansion plans aren't limited to its 20% stake in
Chrysler – Fiat is also considering acquiring General Motors' European
operations, including Opel, Vauxhall and even Saab.
The result
could be a new company that spins off Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo,
along with Chrysler and GM Europe, into one corporate entity worth
around $106 billion and rivaling Volkswagen to become the world's
second largest automaker behind Toyota.
In an interview with the
Financial Times, Fiat's CEO Sergio Marchionne said of the union, "From
an engineering and industrial point of view, this is a marriage made in
heaven" and with the full support of the automaker's board, Marchionne
hopes to have the deal completed in May, with shares of the new company
– tentatively dubbed Fiat/Opel – available by the end of the summer.
Marchionne
believes that the alliance would make Fiat a stronger entity in the
global marketplace during the economic downturn and through merging
Fiat and Opel's B- and C-segment platforms, along with absorbing Opel's
larger D-platform and Fiat's sub-compact A-segment offerings, could
save around 1 billion euros each year.
Of course, Fiat and
Marchionne have a long road ahead. German trade unions are opposed to
the deal, citing concerns about job losses and factory closures, and
according to the German magazine WirtschaftWoche, Fiat's initial offer
of $1.33 billion to acquire GM's European operations was considered too
small by the General.
Marchionne is scheduled to present Fiat's
plan to an assortment of German leaders later today and expect more to
follow over the coming weeks.
WAIT, WAIT...THERE IS MORE FROM THE "PEANUT GALLERY".....!!!....:

Alec Baldwin has written a scathing letter in the Huffington Post
titled "The rise and fall of Detroit." In the column, he calls for the
end of the three industrial giants, and, like many Americans, the elder
Baldwin brother doesn't want taxpayer money to go towards the
revitalization of Detroit automakers. His reason? Fuel economy.
"The
heads of these corporations did not spend the last thirty years lying
in bed each night, sleepless. They did not turn their spouses in the
wee hours and say, "How do I serve the automotive needs of the American
public and better protect their health and safety AND help them
conserve energy?" They never said that."
Read on for a few facts that Mr. Baldwin missed and a bit of analysis on his diatribe.
Regarding
health and safety, it should be noted that the three-point automotive
safety belt was invented by Americans. While American automakers
weren't the first to offer standard safety belts (Saab was first, and
Volvo was second) front and rear belts were standard issue on all cars
by 1968. The first patents for airbag-type devices were
filed by Germans and Americans in 1951. Ford had experimental airbag
fleets as early as 1971, and GM offered the first airbag for sale to
the public in the 1973 Oldsmobile Toranado. Chrysler was the first
automaker to offer airbags as standard equipment in 1988.
Furthermore,
the catalytic converter was invented in 1950 by a Frenchman living in
the US. It seems there was smog 59 years ago in LA, leading him to
create the device. That device didn't work in cars of the day because
the lead in gas destroyed it, but a company in New Jersey later made
the first production catalytic converters in 1973. Automakers had the
pollution-preventing devices standard on all vehicles by 1975.
Baldwin goes on to say that Americans have been subsidizing Detroit for
decades since a good portion of our military budget goes towards oil
"by destabilizing the governments of petroleum rich countries, or
outright invading them."
It's difficult to understand why big oil is all Detroit's fault. First off, transportation is about 55%
of overall US oil consumption. That 55% includes big-rigs, planes and
trains. Heating oil, which is used in the Northeast during the winter, uses about 25%
of overall oil consumption. And there are only eight million households
in the US that use heating oil. Yet the overwhelming emphasis in the
media is on automotive.
With regards to fuel efficiency, it's
true that Honda and Toyota are light years ahead of Detroit automakers
in hybrid sales, but CHEVROLET RANKS #3 IN USA CAFE RATINGS, WHILE TOYOTA IS # 10 !!!...hybrids make up less than 5% of overall automotive
sales in the US. Outside of hybrids, though, fuel economy is very
similar across all automakers. The Fusion, for example, has the highest
fuel economy of any midsize sedan at 34 mpg, and the Fusion hybrid
achieves 41 mpg in the city -- eight mpg better than the Camry hybrid.
The 2010 Chevy Equinox promises 32 mpg on the highway, head and
shoulders above any other mid-size crossover. The point? Nobody is
running away with the fuel economy crown.
Baldwin goes on to
mention that while he drove a Tahoe back in the early 90s, he now owns
a Prius. Now he's in the market for another new car, and he says he'll
likely buy another hybrid from a Japanese transplant making vehicles in
the American south. That new car would have to be a Camry Hybrid,
because it's the only Japanese-branded hybrid built in the US. He could
get an Escape hybrid, though. It's made in Kansas City.

Fight was broken up after about 8 seconds...cursing continued Baldwin

CHRYSLER COMES BACK BIG & BAD ASS !
...LOOK OUT, IT'S A NEW CHRYSLER !!!!
AFTER ANNOUNCING A DEAL WITH FIAT, THE ITALIAN AUTO MAKER, CHRYSLER FILED FOR CHAPTER 11 PROTECTION FROM IT'S CREDITOR'S...TRUTH IN FACT IS THAT fiat WILL NOT OWN CHRYSLER,....THE UAW WILL, OVER 50 % OF THE STOCK !
THIS IS UNPRECEDENTED...THE UAW IS THE BIGGEST "CREDITOR" SO THEY WILL GET THE "LIONS SHARE" OF CHRYSLER,...THE USA GOVERNMENT WILL GET 10 % ...& FIAT WILL GAIN 20 % FOR CASH INFUSION & BE ABLE TO SELL "FIAT" MODELS IN THE USA VIA CHRYSLER DEALERSHIPS. FIAT WILL ALSO BE ABLE TO BUILD CARS IN THE USA IN CHRYSLER FACTORIES, & SELL CHRYSLER MODELS WORLDWIDE !!!!

THE BAD NEWS IS THAT THE SUPPLIERS, COMPONENT MANUFACTURES MOSTLY WILL TAKE A LOSS,...& THE BANKS TOO, PLUS THE BANKS WILL TAKE A HIT FROM THE SUPPLIERS, DEALERS & SUPPORT COMPANIES THAT RELY UPON CHRYSLER !!!!
...NOW YOU UNDERSTAND WHY THEY ARE NOT LOANING MONEY IN SPITE OF THE "BAILOUT" FUNDS FROM THE USA...THEY ARE RUNNING SCARED...IF GM DOSE THIS SAME "TRICK"...USING THE COURTS TO "VOID" ALL PAST COMMITMENTS....THE BANKS ARE F##### UP !!...AGAIN. OF COURSE, THE BANKS NEED TO GO AWAY...NOT THE AUTO COMPANIES !!!...THE USA NEEDS THEM, THE BANKS ARE EXPENDABLE !!!
BANKS CREATE NO REAL TANGIBLE PRODUCT, JUST "PAPER DEBT"...THE "EARNINGS" OF A BANK ARE BASED UPON "INTEREST & FEES" THE EARNINGS OF AN AUTO COMPANY ARE ACTUAL PHYSICAL PRODUCTS YOU CAN DRIVE ON THE STREET !!!

...& TOYOTA JUST "BORROWED" $25 BILLION DOLLARS DESTINED FOR USA "OPERATIONS"....YEAH, FROM THE GOVERNMENT OWNED NATIONAL BANK OF JAPAN !!!!... & FOR WHAT ????...TO CONTINUE TO F*** UP THE USA.

^^ OH YES, .,...TOYOTA WILL BE ON THE PHONE TO SATURN DEALERS & PONTIAC DEALERS NATIONWIDE... NOW THAT GM HAS "CUT " BOTH THOSE BRANDS... JUST LIKE THE 1960'S & 70'S...TOYOTA WILL PAY TO KEEP THE DOORS OPEN, (REGARDLESS IF THEY SELL A CAR)...
OFFER BIG COMMISSIONS ON SALES, & GENERALLY APPEAL TO THE GREED & STUPIDITY OF THE AMERICAN AUTO DEALERSHIPS & THE DUMB ASS "CUSTOMERS"... WELL THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE ABOUT TO GET......!!!!!
MORGAN STANLEY MANIPULATING FORD STOCK FOR A SHORT SELL PROFIT !!...
It seems as if Wall Street brokers are willing to "eat their own" to
make a short term gain...otherwise why would GM, FORD & OTHER AMERICAN stocks tumble...as the
economic news of lower than expected profits should not bring down a
"bell weather" company. GE is posed to get big dollars from their wind
turbines,GM is building electric cars, FORD is not even getting a "loan" from the Government ! ...these brokers are banking on a huge profit by buying on the cheap= short selling AMERICA & THE MANUFACTURING BASE UPON WHICH THE NATION IS BUILT !!!
If these are the methods now in use, as their derivatives and credit
default swaps and other computer models have failed, then one only
wonders about their morality...but as a movie noted: Greed is Good. BUT IT IS NOT GOOD FOR AMERICA.
The only question left is who will be left standing?

BREAKING NEWS UPDATE !!...THIS CADDY MAY BE THE NEW GM SEDAN ;

GM is beating on the drums -- softly, to be sure -- and the message they're sending is that the Cadillac Converj Concept could see production. The first issue with building such a car is money, and GM's problems in that arena are already well-documented. If that hurdle were to be cleared, GM has said that the next question is the number of doors: two or four?
A
four-door car has a much better chance at the kind of volume GM would
need in order to make the Converj a worthy proposition and Lutz
apparently said that a production Converj would be as close to the
concept as the production Camaro. If GM adds an extra set of doors
while maintaining the go-fast profile, it would still have a car that
could drive straight into a buyer's heart.
But how much would
it cost? The Volt -- under the mass-market Chevy brand -- is expected
to run about $40,000 when it arrives. Add in the brand premium and the
requisite luxury accoutrements, and when it's tallied up, a theoretical
Cadillac version is likely to wear a substantially higher sticker
price. Would buyers be ready to embrace it?

GENERAL MOTORS REVEALS THE CHEVROLET VOLT ELECTRIC CAR :
The extended-range electric vehicle that is redefining the
automotive world is no longer just a rumor. In fact, its propulsion
system is so revolutionary, it's unlike any other vehicle or electric
car that's ever been introduced. And we're making this remarkable
vision a reality, so that one day you'll have the freedom to drive
gas-free.
Chevy Volt is designed to move more than 75
percent of America's daily commuters without a single drop of gas.(1)
That means for someone who drives less than 40 miles a day, Chevy Volt
will use zero gasoline and produce zero emissions.(2)
Unlike
traditional electric cars, Chevy Volt has a revolutionary propulsion
system that takes you beyond the power of the battery. It will use a
lithium-ion battery with a variety of range-extending onboard power
sources, including gas and, in some vehicles, E85 ethanol(3) to
recharge the battery while you drive beyond the 40-mile battery range.
And when it comes to being plugged in, Chevy Volt will be designed to
use a common household plug.
